The Butterfly is one of freestyle footbag's most important tricks. It combines a toe set, an opposite leg-over dexterity, and a clipper stall. Mastering Butterfly opens the door to advanced links, runs, and competitive freestyle play.

How To Perform A Butterfly

  1. Start from a controlled toe stall.
  2. Set the bag slightly upward and toward your centerline.
  3. Hop off the support leg as the bag rises.
  4. Swing the opposite leg over the bag from outside to inside.
  5. Continue turning your hips into clipper position.
  6. Catch the bag on a clean clipper stall behind the support leg.

Tips For Learning

Master Clipper First

A solid clipper stall makes learning Butterfly dramatically easier.

Set Close To Your Body

Keep the set controlled. Large sets make the dexterity much harder.

Turn Into The Catch

Rotate your hips and shoulders toward clipper position before the stall.
